Golden Fields

The Golden Fields are a broad, fertile region in central Essos, lying south of the Forest of Qohor and east of the great river Rhoyne. Their name derives from the vast expanses of grain that ripen to a golden hue under the sun, making them one of the most productive agricultural zones in the continent. The Lhorulu River, called the Smiling Daughter by the Rhoynar, rises in these fields and flows westward to join the Rhoyne near the site of the drowned city of Chroyane. The region's wealth in grain and other crops has historically made it a valuable prize for the Free Cities and a source of trade goods carried downriver to Volantis and beyond. During the journey of Tyrion Lannister and the company aboard the Shy Maid, the boatman Yandry describes the Golden Fields as the source of the Lhorulu, emphasizing the river's role in the Rhoyne's vast watershed. The fields are not directly visited in the narrative but are referenced as part of the geographical lore of the Rhoyne river system, illustrating the scale and richness of the lands through which the river flows before reaching the sea.
